ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN COMPETITION
The functional building volumes arranged around the central linden tree form a strong architectural concept: conceived as solid building blocks, they create a fortress-like structure that protects the inner world of the kindergarten and the tree itself. At the same time, the cloister connecting the volumes establishes a transparent, continuous inner space that integrates the courtyard and the linden tree into the everyday life of the building. It supports easy orientation, encourages children to move freely, and, through spatial expansions at key points, creates high-quality shared spaces—whether at the main entrance hall, in the transitional areas of the group rooms, or in the foyer of the gym.
Alongside the kindergarten building, the playground plays an equally important role. The aim is to create adequately sized outdoor spaces articulated as extensions of the group rooms. The single-storey configuration of the building is a conceptual decision, ensuring that all functions have a direct connection to the garden. To enable the courtyard to remain as natural and green as possible, the flat roof is also utilized via an external staircase. Functions requiring hard surfaces—such as a sports court, rooftop trampoline, and rooftop splash pool—can be accommodated here. Activating the roof level in this way also enriches visual connections both within the building and between interior and exterior spaces.
