The sailing harbor building has been built in the lakeside zone of Balatonfüred, with consideration to the touristic aims and requirements of the Hungarian Sailing Association and the Hungarian Kayak-Canoe Association. The two-story building, accommodating hangars, storerooms, toilets, and changing rooms, is characterized by functionality and simplicity.
Several touristic developments were realized in the lakeside area of Balatonfüred in the past few years. The city beach, the city camping ground and its environment, the Kékszalag Walkway and the Anna Walkway have been refurbished and a new hotel has been built with 80 rooms. The sailing boat stop has been established with consideration to the touristic aims and requirements of the Hungarian sailing and kayak-canoe associations, by rebuilding the harbor operating in the Füred Camping.
The location of the two-story high, flat roof building has been tightly limited by its surroundings and the building regulations; its design is is characterized by rationality and simplicity. The building is formed as a single, long block, divided into functional units by crosswise walls. It is completed on the north-eastern side with stairs leading to the terrace parallel to the boundary of the site. The longish layout ensures that the hangars on the ground floor are easily accessible from the outside. Owing to the fall in the terrain, the sailboat hangar requiring a high internal height is located at the lakeside end of the building, while the kayak and canoe hangar occupies the opposite end. The entrance to the building is centrally located, with reception, toilets and changing rooms for both sexes and a first aid room. Only that side of the building which is farther from Lake Balaton is built in on the first floor, with guest rooms, further sanitary blocks, and offices. The rest of the first floor is a terrace, facing the lake, with a roofed part in front of the offices. In the middle section of the longitudinal facades, there are horizontal aluminium louvre shading panels, supported by steel columns, which also serve as canopies. On the north-eastern side, the row of columns continues along the stairs leading to the terrace, emphasizing the characteristic jutting of the first floor.
The materials on the facade are also characterized by functionality and simplicity. The surfaces between the doors and windows, and the strip of the hangar doors are clad with fibre cement panels, like the cladding of the neighbouring hotel. The office has glazed curtain wall and white thin coat plaster on the solid surfaces. The steel columns and the horizontal louvre panels, which determine the character of the building, have been painted a striking blue, typical of the port buildings by Lake Balaton.
