GTC White House is located in the row of office buildings in Váci út, in the XIII. district of Budapest. Its speciality lies in connecting the old and the new, the present and the past. By joining a hundred year old former factory building with a brand new office building, the architects have created a complex which provides up-to-date work environment for the tennants, using the latest technologies, nevertheless it has also retained the nostalgic ambience of the loft building.
The building is located along Váci út, between Dózsa György út and Róbert Károly körút. It has excellent accessibility both by car and by public transport. There is a new block accommodating 18,000 m2 office area, but an equally important part of the development was the reconstruction of the 19th century building of the iron foundry and factory founded by Schlick Ignác. The structural framework and facade architecture of the old industrial building have remained, its interior accommodates almost 2000 m2 office area, complete with new and rebuilt internal traffic cores and sanitary blocks. The old and the new wings are connected by a passage with glazed walls and roof, marking the main entrance, opening from Váci út. The passage and the almost 30 m high glass-roofed atrium connect the Váci út and Dunyov utca entrances with Angyalföldi utca and give access to the three internal traffic cores of the building. The staircases, adjusted to the sloping roof slab of the building, start from the 3 parking floors and lead to the topmost office floor and to the HVAC area respectively. A conference hall and a cafe-restaurant also open from the passage, the latter has a terrace in the back yard.
True to its name, the exterior of the building is dominated by white colour. Thermal insulating plaster was applied on the facade of the old building and the original architectural dividing elements were rebuilt. The facade of the new part is clad by large, white aluminium panels. The neutral, monochrome finish of the building is paired with anthracite window and curtain wall structures and precast fair-face concrete cornice elements on the curtain wall facades. The whole building has been designed with an environmentally conscious approach. There is a green roof without mechanical installations, a grey water network, a huge bicycle storage area and an interior garden. The premium technical equipment and green solutions of the office building have been awarded the highest possible LEED Platinum rating by the American LEED green building certification system.
