INTRODUCTION

KÖZTI Architects & Engineers, the architectural firm with the longest traditions in Hungary, was founded in 1949. During its history more than three thousand people have worked for it, so we can worthily say that since the middle of the last century, the cream of Hungarian architect professionals was associated with KÖZTI. Nowadays the company operates with more than 40 architects, who are supported by specialist engineers including structural, electrical and building engineering.

KÖZTI takes forward the finest traditions of Hungarian architecture. As proof of this, we can mention the important fact that KÖZTI has always been employing many architects who have won the most significant Hungarian architect awards, for example Miklós Ybl Award, Kossuth Award and Pro Architectura Award. The buildings of these “masters” also got much attention by winning prestigious national and international awards. KÖZTI is highlighted among Hungarian architecture companies not only by its size and traditions but also by the number and diversity of its references. The company provides outstanding references in the fields of education, health, industry, trade and catering, but it is also highly familiar with the fields of residential buildings, public buildings, office buildings, sports complexes and cultural property. Besides these, KÖZTI’s portfolio also includes major reconstructions in Hungary, as well as the designing of the SkyCourt Terminal of Liszt Ferenc International Airport, Budapest Sports Arena and Puskas Ferenc National Stadium. The company also implemented remarkable projects around the world, mostly in the Middle East and Africa.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

KÖZTI’s success is based on the unique expertise and dedication of its staff, which includes both internationally renowned architects with decades of experience and younger colleagues. For KÖZTI, the most important values are client satisfaction and the professional quality of its work. The CEO of KÖZTI is Gábor Smaraglay, and its design directors are Zoltán Tima and Alfréd Peschka. For all of its designers, architecture is both art and engineering, and every building is a unique creation in which the shared dreams of the client and the architect become reality. However, architectural design is not only artistic creation but also engineering work; it is the combination of the two that makes this profession so special. KÖZTI employs top-level engineers to ensure that clients’ visions are realized professionally, economically, energy-efficiently, and using all innovative solutions of the 21st century.

GENERAL DESIGN

KÖZTI’s comprehensive general design services ensure that every phase of a project is carried out with a unified approach and high professional standards. We designed Hungary’s largest-capacity event venue, the Puskás Arena. Our experienced team accompanies investments from concept development through to construction documentation. Our integrated approach reduces risks and optimizes costs. We provide our clients with predictable, efficient, and high-quality solutions.

SUSTAINABILITY

Our design processes are centered on environmental awareness and long-term value creation. KÖZTI applies modern, energy-efficient, and sustainable solutions that meet international standards. Our goal is for our buildings not only to be economical to operate but also to create more livable environments. Our experience in the development of the White House Office Building is a good example of our sustainability approach.

BIM APPROACH

BIM-based design enables more accurate, transparent, and efficient project delivery. KÖZTI’s digital model-based workflow supports close collaboration between disciplines. As a result, fewer problems arise and the construction process can be optimized. For our clients, this means faster and more cost-effective project delivery. Our BIM solutions used in the MVM Dome ensured high-quality design under extremely tight deadlines.

PRESERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF HERITAGE MONUMENTS

We approach historic buildings and heritage assets with special expertise and sensitivity. KÖZTI’s goal is to preserve the heritage of the past while aligning it with the needs of the future. In our work, we strive for a balance between authenticity and modern usability. In the case of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, this meant preserving cultural values while revitalizing new spaces.

URBAN-SCALE DEVELOPMENTS

Based on complex analyses and long-term strategies, KÖZTI creates sustainable urban concepts. We consider economic, social, and environmental aspects alike. With a comprehensive urban design approach, we help ensure harmonious integration of developments into their environment. Our solutions create value for both investors and communities. A good example is the integrated revitalization concept of the former barracks area in Vác. In the Sopron region, we are working on urban development plans covering more than 200 hectares.

TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

KÖZTI has extensive experience in designing modern and sustainable transport infrastructure while maintaining a focus on architectural value. Our projects contribute to improving urban mobility and increasing safety. We take a complex approach to the relationship between efficient transport systems and a livable built environment. Numerous intermodal hubs and park-and-ride facilities, as well as major design works, are connected to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport.

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT AND CADASTRE

In addition to individual real estate development projects, there is an increasing demand for the creation of development strategies covering multiple properties. A cadastral system based on jointly defined criteria helps to create a long-term vision that goes beyond individual issues, offering well-structured decision-support tools. We have experience in preparing development plans for campus-like educational and healthcare real estate portfolios.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We think it is important that our designs reflect our environmentally conscious and community-oriented way of thinking. The spaces formed by us provide living spaces, where communities get born and behavioral forms develop. We hope that our buildings improve the quality of life and provide an orderly, simplified environment for the everyday activities of their users.

KÖZTI supports each process or initiative that has a positive effect on shaping the future, be it an important event organized by the Budapest University of Technology or a non-profit design for a local community. Through our professionals, we support education in the university, our studios are accredited locations for practical training. Our colleagues help the tuition of future architects in several institutions as invited lecturers, instructors or regular members of the diploma panels. Several of our colleagues have important public functions or social assignments. Our architects are present in the Hungarian Academy of Art, the Chamber of Architects, different art societies and social organizations either as members or executives. Many of our colleagues take part in the work of different design committees on local or national scale.
