The site of the centre is located within the block bordered by Thaly Kálmán, Tűzoltó and Viola Streets, in the 9th district of Budapest. Following the demolition of the existing building on the plot, Semmelweis University intends to erect a new educational building integrated into the urban fabric, which will be an extension and development for the professional program of the nearby Basic Medical Science Centre. It will mainly focus on creating flexible educational spaces supporting theoretical education, a base for the students’ extracurricular activities. The proposed building ensures this with a row of spaces around an atrium resembling a street, open areas for study and a large, divisible multi-functional space. According to the design, the Basic Medical Science Centre II will be able to interact with its surroundings in an “open connection” since the ground floor will be accessible and traversable from the neighbouring streets.
