The up-to-date indoor swimming pool, suitable to host international tournaments as well, is located next to the open-air swimming pool and offers diverse services for its visitors. The new infrastructure provides high quality conditions both for the reception of spectators and for the technical arrangement of the sports competitions.
The indoor swimming pool has been built on the southwestern side of the existing outdoor swimming pool of the town, at the corner of Ady Endre Street and Bartók Béla Street. The entrance hall of the swimming pool is accessible through the main entrance in Ady Endre Street. The ticket office and information desk, the cafeteria and its forespace are located in the axis of the entrance, with a view to the pool. Turning to the other side and passing through an access control system, one arrives to the hallway that can still be entered in street shoes and the cloak-room, then to the two separate-sex changing rooms for 120 persons each and the four changing rooms for groups. From here, the route passes through a toilet block to the pool area. The big pool is 50×25 m size, with a constant 2.20 metre water depth and perimeter gutters on the long sides. The learner pool is 21×11 m with water depth ranging from 0.80 to 1.10 m and perimeter gutters all around the pool. There is a 3.5 m diametre, circular whirlpool tub in the axis of the learner pool. There are steam baths, showers, bathtubs, a solarium and massage rooms in the sauna block. The water treatment control room, located between the big pool and the learner pool, accommodates the recirculation equipment of the indoor and outdoor pools as well. The lobby to the grandstand, the ticket office and the information desk on the ground floor have separate access from the parking area, in line with the regulations. Wide, single-flight stairs lead from here in two directions towards the spectators’ lobby. The grandstand of 700 person capacity is accessible from this area and the spectators’ cafeteria and cloak-room are also located here.
The facade of the building is clad with red brick and white coloured fibre cement, with glazed panels of aluminium structure. The roof is partly flat roof, partly metal sheet pitch roofing, supported by steel girders. The southern and lateral facades are shaded by striped metal structures.
The indoor swimming pool was extended with a children’s pool, a relaxation pool and a recreation unit in 2014, utilizing the 76°C thermal water. The new, indoor children’s area has a pool with 0.10 to 0.60 m deep warm water, various water features and a water slide. A new exit to the garden provides connection between the indoor swimming pool and the open-air pools. The extension has the same or similar fibre cement cladding, as the main building.
