The project, in addition to ensuring accessibility, aims at establishing the premises of a higher standard of service for public transport connections and further improvement of convenient travel in the vicinity of Kelenföld Railway Station. The intermodal centre consists of a bus terminal providing for local, short and long distance bus services, a P+R multistory car park for 1850 vehicles and 1000 bicycles, and includes commercial and service functions as well. The most important aspects of the architectural concept are concentrated land use, which is the essence of intermodality, the separation of pedestrian/bicycle and vehicular traffic at different levels, and a consistent attention to the principles of sustainability. The inner, landscaped island in front of the bus station and the landscaped area above the terminal offer the opportunity to create a two-level urban public space rich in green areas, which, beyond its primary function, can become a real community space.
