Lua Resort, the first 5-star hotel at Balatonfüred is the first piece of a complex touristic development. The hotel is located right on the lake shore, every room has a view of Lake Balaton. The terraces of the three-story building are stepped towards the lake, there is a large, two-story high wellness centre, a restaurant with a roofed terrace and an open-air pool with water features.
The 78 room hotel is located within the area of the Balatonfüred camping, right next to the new port building that is being built as part of the complex touristic development. An important aspect of the layout and design of the building was the preservation of as many valuable existing trees as posssible. The landscaping of the hotel area has been designed with consideration to the landscaping around the port building.
The hotel has a single-story and a three-story wing. Its main entrance is located in a central position, opening to the lobby, which constitutes an elegant, several story high space with the balcony corridors to the rooms. This central lobby-reception-bar area has direct connection to the restaurant and its private room on the ground floor, the two-story wellness centre and the pair of elevators to the hotel rooms. The ground floor part of the almost 1000 square metre wellness centre has pools with water features and a relaxation area. The basement part, accessed through curved stairs, has saunas, massage rooms and float spa rooms. The restaurant with its roofed terrace is located on the Balaton side of the single-story wing, the other side of this wing accomodates the kitchen and the operational service areas of the building, with separate staff and service entrances. The floors of the three-story wing are stepped towards the lake; the standard hotel rooms with balcony have side views, the higher category, larger suites with terraces face Lake Balaton directly. The mechanical rooms and areas are located on the roof of the three-story wing, hidden by an elliptically shaped drum structure, set back from the plane of the facade.
The building, with reinforced concrete framework, is characterized by the integrated and consistent use of materials. The general facade surfaces are clad with large-format fibre cement panels. The horizontality of the building is enhanced by the metal edge of the rows of balconies encircling it. The external suspended ceiling, resembling timber, slanting towards the edge of the balcony, reinforce this effect. The random placement of the full story high glass panels, which protect the rooms/terraces against the sun and wind, and the powder-sprayed steel railing elements relieves the monotonity of the facades.
