Ács István, project lead architect of KÖZTI, was awarded the Alpár Ignác Award for his decades of work in the field of high-quality architectural design, for his mentoring of the students of architecture and for his community work in the profession. The award was presented at a ceremony held on the occasion of Builders’ Day.
The Alpár Ignác Award is one of the most prestigious professional awards in the field of architecture and building technology, awarded by the Building Science Association to professionals who make an outstanding contribution to the development of the built environment with their work.
Ács István, our colleague, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 1987, and then obtained a specialist degree in monument protection in 2000. He began his professional career in 1987 at KÖZTI, in the studio of Miklós Marosi, where he worked as a lead architect from 1991. Between 2003 and 2009, he was also chief architect of Balatonalmádi. István has been project lead architect for important projects of KÖZTI since 2021.
As a colleague of Miklós Marosi, István played a key role in the design of several significant Hungarian buildings – including the new wing of the Uzsoki Street Hospital, the reconstruction of the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal, the UNHCR building, the development of the Kecskemét Hospital, and the Eiffel Art Studios of the Opera House. Ács István actively participates in the activities of numerous planning boards, works as a diploma consultant and opponent at several universities, and he is the recipient of numerous professional awards.
