One of the cornerstones of reducing car traffic in the city centre is to offer convenient, high quality options for those coming from surrounding areas by car, to change to public transport or bicycles. To achieve such a goal, requires building Park & Ride facilities along the roads leading to the city. The intersection of Mexikói Road and Kacsóh Pongrácz Road lies near the City Park and is next to Rákosrendező, one of the capital’s largest brownfield development areas. It is also of great importance in terms of urban structure and cityscape. The M3 motorway arriving from the east connects to the outer ring-road via a multi-level overpass, with an elliptical parking block rising in its embrace. The double twin spiral creates a protected courtyard for events. Next to the urban square by the metro station, another car park rises as a protective wall. The two buildings have a total of 1,500 car spaces, on their façades, dense bamboo grows. This evergreen appearance continues to the rooftop with a lookout park. Its message is clear: “Stop here! You have reached the City Park. Leave your car if you are heading towards the centre.”
