ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN COMPETITION – AWARDED PURCHASE
The architectural idea of the design is centered on the triad of clearing, connecting and community building. Getting rid of all disordered, out of place, confusing spatial elements and additions. Creating connection between the existing buildings, and with the new functional spaces. Prioritizing practical solutions for building a community, such as larger common spaces, axial connections, the creation of public indoor and courtyard educational areas, up to color and material decisions that direct the atmosphere of the interior spaces in a timeless direction. Instead of a technicistic building for physical exercise, a community house with a wooden vaulted space imbued with a kind of sacredness will be created. In addition to preserving the existing main entrance of the school building, a new axis will connect the building complex. The protected operation of the school will be maintained, while the historic building will also be used by a wider community. The design uses the existing building structure as organically as possible and fills it with functions, but adds only what is absolutely necessary and only as much as necessary. The spaces between the buildings have an independent character and become livable spaces; some serve as prestigious arrival areas, some support school sports, and some function as urban-scale paved meeting points, recalling the proportions and atmosphere of the former brewery courtyard. Közti’s design won a purchase prize in the competition.
