The renovation of the MTA (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) Headquarters, which was designed KÖZTI, is featured in the latest issue of OCTOGON magazine.
The renovation of the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, which has been serving science for the past 160 years, is now taking place for the first time based on a comprehensive concept. The focus of the renovation has been the preservation of historical values while making the navigation between the rooms as easy as possible, the modernization of the technical equipment, the zoning of the functional order, and the reinterpretation of the interior design that harmoniously combines the historic and contemporary spaces.
The Hungarian Academy of Sciences is celebrating its bicentennial this year, and the reconstruction works of Phase I have been completed for the jubilee general assembly. The emblematic Grand Hall has been restored, mechanical spaces and storage areas have been created, the roof system have been reconsidered, the facade windows and doors have been replaced and the mechanical equipment related to the renewed spaces has been modernized. The renovation of the historical row of rooms of the Old Gallery will soon be completed, and with the growth of the Academy’s collection, the creation of the New Gallery on the same floor will become necessary. Phase II will include the renovation of the entire facade, the transformation of the Library, and the redefinition of the spatial connections and corridors between the two blocks.
