The Balatonfüred Congress Center, the only project built outside the capital, won the construction industry award in the cultural public building category. As a sign of recognition, a bronze plaque with the names of the creative participants was placed at the entrance of the center. Our company was represented at the ceremony by Gábor Smaraglay, managing director of KÖZTI, and senior architects István Boda and Zoltán Skrabák.
On the site of the former Balatonfüred market, an underground garage and a full conference center have been built, designed by the KÖZTI team led by Zoltán Tima. The complex will soon include a 50-room hotel as well. At the unveiling of the award plaque, the laudation of the conference center emphasized that the large building blended nicely into the hillside of the city, its glass walls and limestone cladding reflected an effortless elegance. Together with the new hotel to be built next to it and the underground garage, it will provide a good opportunity for Balatonfüred to make significant progress in the field of conference tourism with the cooperation of those interested in tourism.
’The architectural award fills me with pride and good feeling, all the more so because the center was the only building outside the capital to receive recognition. The award acknowledges the joint work of the developer, in this case the local government, the contractor and the architect; the project was judged as a whole. I am glad that they praised how the building had been positioned in the landscape. We strived for this, it was one of the most important aspects, since every building must respond to its environment. I am convinced that this is the only way a building can be good – said Zoltán Tima in response to a question from balatonfured.hu. Architect and design director of KÖZTI, he had prepared the first visual design of the building with his team in 2018, then worked on the congress center equipped with modern technology for five years.
The Construction Industry Award is given for buildings of outstanding architectural and technical quality, every year. The Construction Industry Award Foundation, together with the founding professional organizations, announced its call for entries for the twenty-fourth time in 2024. So far, the judging committee has awarded a total of 241 awards. This year, 13 buildings were awarded in eight categories, including the Balatonfüred Congress Center designed by KÖZTI.
