They could see and experience the thousand faces of Lake Balaton: the sunset on the north shore, Keszthely Bay at night and the sunrise at Szántód – all in a little over 17 hours. This was not a long, leisurely walk, but the Ultrabalaton race, in which the excellent result and efforts of Közteam (the KÖZTI team) were crowned by the sunny finish.
“Don’t worry, we only have to run one lap!” – members of the KÖZTI team, who entered the XIX. Ultrabalaton run this year, reassured each other. However, this one lap was 211 km long around Lake Balaton. At the biggest Hungarian ultra running race of the year, our Közteam completed the extra long distance by almost 1.5 hours better, than last year’s result.
The single-lap race around Lake Balaton is the longest running race in Central Europe, and can be completed individually or in relays, by running or by bike. Completing the single course, drawing strength from each other, the runners experienced all the beauty and challenging difficulties of the circuit.
This year, the KÖZTI team took part in the Ultrabalaton run for the sixth time – with different team members each year, but entering the race with unwavering enthusiasm. We are proud of them, because considering the record number of participants, they finished at the 90th place out of 2103 teams, and the 29th place out of 760 company teams. Out of 1744 participating men’s teams of 9-13 people, they won the prestigious 52nd place!
This year, 13 runners and 2 helpers represented our company.
