As one of the European Capitals of Culture, 2023 was a very important stage for Veszprém. Besides developments at certain points of the city, whole districts have been reborn. Designed by KÖZTI within the Green City project, the environment friendly renewal of the Veszprém Cultural District has been completed.
The development consisted of two projects, the cultural district program and the rehabilitation of the Szent Miklós-szeg Calvary Hill. Within the Green City project, a large park of five hectares have been created, which will attract the residents of the city and those of the region as well.
Since its start, the aim of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program has been to elevate the region into a creative-cultural area for the Hungarians and also for Europe, with Veszprém as its centre.
Projects aimed at developing Veszprém, the Bakony Mountain and Lake Balaton into an integrated touristic area where a great number of cultural and recreational programs are offered, continued in 2024 and will be going on in the future as well. The final aim is to raise the quality of life in the city to the level of the European elite, so that Veszprém could become one of the twenty most livable cities in Europe.
